Town Hall: Savings Through Energy Conservation

The Facilities Department recently hosted two town hall meetings to engage the campus community in a discussion of ways to save money through energy conservation.  Both meetings were a great success and generated numerous suggestions that are being considered for implementation.  If you have additional suggestions, please submit those to sustainability@caltech.edu

Community-supported Agriculture

Community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs allow subscribers to eat seasonally and locally - and to support small, community farms. Caltech supports this practice by serving as a drop off point for a local, organic CSA, Tierra Miguel Farms.  Deliveries are available to subscribers on Fridays behind the Student Services Building (on the patio).

If you are interested in subscribing and receiving ultra-fresh, local, seasonal produce either weekly or bi-weekly, please contact Tierra Miguel Farms or the Tierra Miguel Site Coordinator Marionne Epalle.

Dining Services

Dining Services utilizes local, organic and sustainably-produced food throughout campus.  In 2007, 60% of the produce purchased was locally grown and 5% was organic.  Caltech also exclusively offers fair-trade coffee.

Dining Services has replaced all styrofoam to-go containers with compostable cellulosic materials.  Additionally, the cups and utensils are made from compostable corn based polymers.  Find out more here.
